Oak Ridge National Laboratory: Postdoc: Industrial Onsite Energy
This postdoc is in the Manufacturing Energy Efficiency Research & Analysis (MEERA) Group of ORNL's Manufacturing Science Division. The work covers onsite renewable and thermal energy technologies for industry, including solar thermal, geothermal, thermal storage and industrial heat pumps. The role gives technical assistance to industrial sites that are installing electricity and thermal energy generation and storage. It is a looser fit for thermal engineering than the thermal storage post, because it is mainly analysis work. The appointment is up to 24 months and can be extended.
What you'll do
- Support technical assistance work, including research and analysis of technologies and methods for onsite energy systems
- Carry out market analyses to find openings for onsite energy technologies in industry
- Write technical reports and presentations, and publish peer-reviewed papers
- Help develop resources, training and tools for companies in the DOE Better Plants program
Who can apply
- A PhD in mechanical, industrial, electrical, environmental or chemical engineering, or a related field, completed within the last five years
- A quantitative and analytical research background that can be applied to advanced manufacturing technologies and manufacturing systems
- Strong analytical skills, with experience in life-cycle energy and cost assessments
- Preferred: knowledge of renewable and onsite energy technologies, and proficiency in Excel, Python or R
- All degree requirements must be finished before the start date. A Real ID and a federal background check are required
