UC Berkeley: Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering (3 positions)
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley seeks applicants for three tenure-track Assistant Professor positions. The search covers areas of critical need in mechanical engineering and its link with aerospace engineering. Priority areas are combustion, reacting flows, propulsion, hypersonics, thermal management and energy technologies; and dynamics, structural mechanics, acoustics, astrodynamics and other topics at the ME-AE nexus. It suits researchers who can lead a research program and teach well.
What you'll do
- Develop and lead a vibrant research program that addresses society's grand challenges
- Establish an extramurally funded program aligned with the department's critical need areas
- Provide instructional excellence in undergraduate and graduate education
- Use the connections with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, NASA Ames and the Space Sciences Lab for collaboration
- Contribute to the growth of the college's developing Aerospace Engineering program
Who can apply
- A PhD or equivalent international degree, or enrollment in a PhD-granting program, at the time of application
- Work should support the priority areas: combustion, reacting flows, propulsion, hypersonics, thermal management and sustainable energy technologies
- Dynamics and structural mechanics, acoustics, dynamical systems, astrodynamics and aerospace systems topics also count
- Candidates need a compelling 5-10 year research vision
- Candidates must supply the signed Authorization to Release Information form with the application
