Zone 5 Technologies: Aerodynamics CFD Engineer

Posted 25 Oct 2026

Zone 5 Technologies builds unmanned aircraft systems and is hiring an Aerodynamics CFD Engineer for its Aerodynamics team. The engineer runs applied CFD on high-performance UAS and supports the work with wind tunnel and flight test data. It suits an experienced CFD engineer with an aerospace or UAV background.

What you'll do

  • Run high-fidelity CFD simulations to assess the aerodynamic, mechanical, thermal and performance effects of designs
  • Work with structures, propulsion, controls and systems teams to bring aerodynamic findings into the overall design
  • Generate aerodynamic databases for high-performance UAS
  • Validate CFD models against wind tunnel and flight test data
  • Develop and mature automated, production-ready CFD environments
  • Prepare technical reports and present findings to internal and external customers

Who can apply

  • US citizenship or equivalent status is required for the defense-related work
  • A Master's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering is preferred, and a Bachelor's degree with substantial relevant experience is required
  • 3+ years of applied industrial CFD in aerodynamics (5+ years with a BS), particularly for high-performance aircraft or UAVs
  • Production experience with Navier-Stokes CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent/CFX or STAR-CCM+, including geometry preparation, meshing and debugging
  • Programming experience in Python and Java
  • Experience with Tecplot, ParaView or MATLAB, with git, and with industrial wind tunnel testing
