KTH: Postdoc in ICME for Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

Posted 23 Oct 2026

KTH's XPRES production research centre and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering are hiring a postdoc on process-microstructure-property links in metal additive manufacturing, focused on electron beam powder bed fusion. The project uses ICME, combining modelling, process data and experimental characterisation to link processing to material behaviour and structural integrity. It works with materials, structural mechanics and production engineering researchers. The post is for at most two years.

What you'll do

  • Study how process strategy, geometry and thermal history shape local microstructure and properties in PBF-EB components
  • Do materials, process and microstructure modelling and analyse process data
  • Carry out materials characterisation and mechanical testing, depending on your background
  • Connect computational or theoretical approaches with experimental data
  • Develop new methods across materials science, structural mechanics and production engineering

Who can apply

  • A doctoral degree or equivalent, met by the time the employment decision is made
  • Research expertise in materials science, materials, mechanical or manufacturing engineering, or another relevant field
  • Research experience in metallic materials and additive manufacturing, rapid solidification, computational materials science or materials modelling
  • Preferred: a doctorate from the last three years, and experience with ICME, CALPHAD, microstructure or process modelling, or powder bed fusion

How to apply

Log into KTH's recruitment system and apply. Include a CV, copies of diplomas and grades (translated into English or Swedish if needed), and a brief account of why you want to do research, your interests and goals, at most two pages. Applications must arrive by midnight CET on the last application date.
