Mainspring Energy: Staff CFD Modeling Engineer

Posted 25 Oct 2026

Mainspring Energy makes fuel-flexible linear generators. It needs a Staff CFD Modeling Engineer on its system modeling and simulation team. The role covers detailed fluid dynamic and thermochemical analysis to guide generator design, and links CFD to lower-order system models. It is a hybrid job at the Menlo Park headquarters.

What you'll do

  • Run commercial CFD software to analyse transient gas flow, chemical kinetics and heat transfer
  • Work with mechanical engineers to turn SolidWorks CAD into fluid volumes, then build and debug meshes
  • Choose boundary conditions and domain models, and manage solver runs on local hardware and the cloud (AWS/GCP)
  • Write test plans to validate CFD results, oversee the tests on the generator, and compare test data with simulations
  • Build lower-order models for system-level simulation
  • Write C++ and Python code to automate CFD runs and couple lower-order models to CFD

Who can apply

  • Strong CFD skills and the ability to break complex multidimensional flow into fundamental behaviour
  • Ability to explain CFD principles and the reasons behind solver and model settings
  • Programming skill in C++ and Python for automation
  • Willingness to be on site at Menlo Park for testing, troubleshooting and manufacturing support
