PhysicsX: Principal CFD Engineer

Posted 25 Oct 2026

PhysicsX builds an AI-driven simulation software stack for engineering and manufacturing. The Principal CFD Engineer leads the delivery of complex multi-physics simulation work for customers. The person works with data scientists and machine learning engineers, often on site with customers. The post suits very senior simulation engineers.

What you'll do

  • Lead the technical direction and delivery of complex multi-physics simulation workstreams, staying hands-on for the hardest parts
  • Work with customers on their hardest engineering problems and present results with clear next steps
  • Build and guide others in building CFD models, from geometry clean-up and meshing to post-processing
  • Automate Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM or Fluent into scalable optimisation workflows
  • Generate simulation datasets for training machine learning surrogate models
  • Use the Flux cloud platform and on-premise HPC to run simulations

Who can apply

  • 5+ years of industry experience after a Master's or PhD, in a commercial rather than research setting
  • Deep knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and multiphase modelling
  • High proficiency in at least one of Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM or Fluent
  • Python or Java coding, and parametric CAD modelling (NX or CATIA), are an advantage
  • The role may need access to US export-controlled information, and an offer may depend on authorisation to receive it without an export licence
